Gwendolyn's dream is to prove that women can be as strong and capable as men, but she is held back by the rules of medieval society, a domineering father, and her own fear. When she falls in love with Sir William, he opens her eyes to more possibilities and opportunities than she ever imagined. Will she achieve her dream?
Farewell edition by Sarah Garrison Romance eBooks
I selected this short story because it had no reviews and also because it had been written for a 10th grade assignment quite a few years ago and finally published. I'm impressed with what this author wrote in high school and would like to see more current work. The book is written in first person which is difficult but this one is easy to read. The subject matter indicates that the writer has done some research into the period. The story is age appropriate but very sad as the title hints. Events, while harsh, are indicative of what may have been somewhat acceptable child discipline at that time because children were considered merely property by some. However; it isn't so graphic to go past making that point. There isn't great internal conflict because the point is getting to a better place a few steps at a time. I could even see using this short story to open an uncomfortable dialog with a young person who may not be willing to discuss subjects such as abuse, trust, running away. Let's hope Ms Garrison will continue.Product details
